Geneva
For centuries Geneva has welcomed travellers and refugees, who have contributed immensely to the history, culture and renown of Calvin's city.
Geneva houses over 40 public and private museums, as well as numerous art galleries. The various collections cater for all interests, be it archaeology, ethnography, nature, fine arts, applied arts, science or technology.
Voltaire Institute and Museum
Voltaire said of this estate, called "Les Délices", which he owned from 1755 until 1765 : "It is the palace of a philosopher with the gardens of Epicurus."
Since 1954, this mansion has housed an important documentation and research centre. The library contains 25,000 volumes consecrated to Voltaire and the 18th century. A temporary exhibition may also be seen.
Château de Coppet
The fame of the Château of Coppet starts in 1784, the year of its purchase by Jacques Necker. Necker, born in Geneva, made an exceptional career in Paris, where Louis XVI, King of France, chose him to be his Finance Minister.
Château de Prangins
Prangins lies just a few minutes from Nyon. It is an impressive example of a living place anchored deeply in history.
